WHAT'S IN THIS ISSUE?
GULF ISLANDS "SAILING IN AWARENESS RETREATS" Our 2005 summer “Sailing in Awareness Retreats” operated out of Nanaimo Harbour B.C., Canada, are now starting to book up for the summer season. This year we have many women coming from Alberta and the USA. For interesting reasons too!. Why are our clients taking a HERIZEN™ Sailing in Awareness Retreat this year? Most of our clients are amazing women who want to empower themselves and on average are between the age of 40 to 65. There are a number of women that are returning this year for the second time. There objective is to become more proficient at understanding the points of sail and the true art of sail trim. These women are also planning to upgrade from the Canadian Yachting Association (CYA) Basic Cruising Standard to their Intermeidate Certification level.. We will be going on a cruising adventure for a number of days to utilize skills learned last year and learning more advanced skills with emphasizes on the water skills at a level acceptable for bareboat charters. One gal will be sailing with her husband in the Caribbean early this summer and later they plan to cruise with their boat in the San Juans and Gulf Islands. She is committed to expanding her self so that she can be a great sailing partner and also know what to do and take command if something happens to her partner. Plus she wants to feel comfident to take any sailing vessel out with her girlfriends when she wants. Besides the actual sailing skills, this client is keen to expand her communications skills so she can have a more enriched relationship with her partner at sea. Keeping the marriage afloat is a good idea! This year we have a large number of adventourous women coming out to the West Coast from Alberta. Many of these women have learned to sail in Alberta and have been coming to B.C. for sailing adventures each summer. What I am hearing from them is that they want to be more than just the cook in the galley, or person that holds a line. This women wants to stand in her power, show up as herself and really learn the finer details of the "whys' of sailing in a way that relates to her reality, while at the same time builds confidence and belief in themselves in a tangable way that is transferrable to all parts of her life. Go for it ladies! Every day I am hearing a new story of a women that has recently lost a beloved partner. She has sailed with her partner in the past with him being the main person in control of the boat. These women have come to love sailing and being on the water and do not want to give it up. Many of these women now have the boat in their hands..some women have decided keep it and continue the sailing legacy and on their own take the helm confidently. I am honored to assist these women this summer in gaining the confidence to take the helm, to teach them good boating and sailing skills and learn to have fun too! I honour you ladies! Others want the exhilirating experience of learning a new sport and skill through the finer details of the whys of sailing in a way that relates to a women's reality. This year we will be seeing clients from California, Australia, Alberta, B.C., Oregon and a host of other locations. We are going to see a lot more women cruising the oceans of the world. BOATING IN AWARENESS SAFETY TIPS LEARNING OR UPGRADING MY SAILNG SKILLS Spring is almost upon us and it is time to think about the sailing season again. Do you need to upgade your skill level? Do you need to apply the skills you have and get more actual sea time? Are you wanting to take command of the helm? Do you want to overcome specific fears like docking, heeling or being yelled at? Do you want to learn to race? There are many ways that a person can learn or upgrade their skills. You can learn from friends, learn by reading books or magazines, you can learn on your own or you can learn from a formal class from a professional patient non judegemental instructor. Start asking yourself questions about what your personal boating or sailing objectives are going to be for you this. Which method are you going to use to learn or upgrade? Start talking to friends, looking at different books and researching different schools so that you have an idea of what is available. WHATS NEW AT HERIZEN! WOW!
